I’m thrilled to announce the launch of That’s Dope: The Party Game for Strong Opinions. That’s Dope is the perfect party game and icebreaker for any group and the rules are simple.

2020 presented me with the unique challenge / opportunity of having lots and lots of time. I’m proud to say that I spent a large part of my year producing and designing That’s Dope completely in-house. From sketches, to play testing to final designs, I had a chance to build That’s Dope from the ground up. I truly believe That’s Dope has what it takes to be a new and unique way to have fun, break the ice and learn something new about your friends, old and new.

It started as a joke with friends, an Instagram account and a really great conversation-starter. Since then, I’ve played the role of creator, designer and business owner, independently developing the project all in-house. During 2020, I decided to take the next step by incorporating my new venture, Black King Games LLC, with plans to publish my first gaming project, That’s Dope.

That’s Dope is a hilarious, conversation-starting, social deduction game where players take turns guessing who voted “Dope” or “Nope” to funny and sometimes thought-provoking topics.

Try it yourself:

  • “Staying friends with your ex”, “Dope” or “Nope”?!
  • “Sending something back at a restaurant”, “Dope” or “Nope”?!
  • “Brushing your teeth in the shower”, “Dope” or “Nope”?!

Each round, one player reads a topic from a white card and everyone else votes whether they think the topic is “Dope” or “Nope” using one of their black cards. Guess how many players voted that the topic was “Dope” to win the game!

Topic cards span 10 different categories ranging from “Life Choices” to “Dating” scenarios and the game comes with 5 fun, unique game modes to try — Casual, Competitive, One-on-One, Teams and Ice Breaker. We recommend starting with fan favorites Casual or Competitive mode and for even more fun, remix them and make your own rules!

That’s Dope comes with 5 fun game modes out of the box, but the rules can easily be remixed to make your own, fun versions! Want to see more ways to play?

  •  Competitive Rules: For players with strong opinions and competitive spirits. Each player starts with three topic cards and it’s a game of “last person standing”. Guess right to stay in the game.
  •  One-on-One Rules: Perfect for couples, friends and anything in between. Can you guess what the other person thinks is “Dope” or “Nope”?
  •  Teams Rules: Perfect for groups. Correctly guess what your teammates think is “Dope” or “Nope” to win the game.
  •  Icebreaker Rules: Great for groups of friends, team events, strangers or even the chance romantic encounter… Just mention a topic and let your strong opinions fly!

Here are a few of our favorite ways to remix the rules:

  •  Have a drink: That’s Dope makes for the perfect drinking game for you and your friends (21+ only of course). The Guesser drinks if they make an incorrect guess and all other players drink if the Guesser is correct.
  •  Easy Mode: Instead of guessing the exact number of players that voted “Dope”, the Guesser should guess what the majority of players voted. Tie goes to the Guesser.
  •  Hard Mode: For a tougher challenge, instead of guessing the total number of players that voted “Dope”, the Guesser should correct guess how each player voted.

In addition to producing my first gaming project, I took the time to form Black King Games LLC. With my new small business, I plan to not only continue producing fun projects like this one, but also be an arm for other underrepresented creators along their journey.
